This week in the MWC

Second-to-last week in the regular season for most in the Mountain West. UNLV is off and it fired coach Mike Sanford last Sunday.

For Air Force this is its last game prior to a bowl game.

Here’s what I think will happen:

Colorado State at New Mexico: CSU is coming off a bye week, and even though New Mexico is winless the Lobos are playing better. They get that first win for coach Mike Locksley as senior quarterback Donovan Porterie carves up a depleted Rams defense. By the way, both teams are winless in league play entering this one. Two bad teams make for a good game. New Mexico 27, CSU 21

San Diego State at No. 23 Utah: The Utes were humbled, like most teams this season, at No. 4 TCU last week. They will bounce back in a big way in their last home game. San Diego State will still be reeling from giving up 24 fourth-quarter points in last week’s 30-27 home loss to Wyoming. Utah 33, SDSU 17

Air Force at No. 19 Brigham Young: Air Force’s defense has stopped or slowed down every one this season, including TCU in a 20-17 loss on Oct. 10. But history shows the Falcons don’t play well against BYU. The Cougars have won five straight in the series, scored at least 31 points in those games and won by at least two touchdowns. This game might be closer but BYU still wins. BYU 23, Air Force 16

No. 4 TCU at Wyoming: The cold and three turnovers slowed TCU down at Air Force last month, and the rain slowed it down at Clemson. But TCU still won those games. Mother Nature may be the only thing that can slow down the Horned Frogs. But the weather in Laramie shouldn’t be that bad. TCU is one of the best teams in the country and Wyoming has to do all it can just to make it a game. The Cowboys might make it one for a little bit but probably not for long enough. TCU 52, Wyoming 10

Let me know what you think?

See Friday’s paper for a story about an odd ailment for Cowboys punter Austin McCoy and how he played through it last week. There’s also about TCU’s high-powered offense.

We are still on for the live blog from Saturday’s TCU game. I will start around 11 a.m. Join me at wyomingcowboysblog.com/2009/11/18/wyoming-vs-tcu-live-blog/
