Border War memories

I asked a couple of current Wyoming football players about their first memories of the Border War rivalry with Colorado State:

“My first vivid memory of this game was when (former offensive lineman) Chase Johnson ran across the field last time we won (2006) and took the Bronze Boot off their table on their sideline. I want to do that,” senior center Russ Arnold said.

“I also remember when I went to this game as a redshirt (2005) I got a speeding ticket on the way down there, and the fans were incredibly rude to my mother.”

“We shut them out up here 24-0 my freshman year (2006) . The entire defense cut mohawks in our hair. It was one of those things with the intensity of the game. You could see it in everybody’s eyes what was going to happen and what it meant to everybody,” UW senior linebacker Weston Johnson.

The 2006 game was the last time UW beat CSU.

“Everybody was passing the boot around, taking pictures with it. That 15 minutes after the game is something you cannot duplicate, ever. I want to to do that again,” said UW senior offensive tackle Ryan Otterson about that 2006 game.

“The year before I got up here was when somebody spray painted the ‘W’ on the feld in Fort Collins. I thought ‘it’s really like that, huh?’ ” Otterson added.

Now that’s what I’m talking about: good, old fashioned shenanigans.

What about you? Let me know your favorite or not so favorite Border War memories as a fan or player.

See Tuesday’s paper for a story on UW’s bowl possibilites if it wins at CSU Friday. In some ways they are clear, and in others they are quite cloudy.
