Another Wyoming Shootout in the books and two impressive victories for the Cowboys and Cowgirls.
I think we expected the UW women to beat an undermanned NAIA team in Dakota State and that’s what they did 102-54.
Nice to see both good inside and outside shooting. Granted, it was against inferior competition, but anytime you can do that it’s a plus.
The men defeated a pretty good Northern Colorado team 76-70 and has won three straight. This one was kind of like the previous two wins and the last two losses were the Cowboys played well in spurts but then struggled and allowed their opponent to get back in the game or take a lead.
But in this game, UNC never regained the lead in the second half. That was a big step for this team.
Afam Muojeke didn’t shoot the ball well, but he played well in the second half. All 15 of his points came during that time and only one of his five turnovers.
And, JayDee Luster’s shoulder injury is still bothering him. He isn’t letting on to it, but it is.
Finally, the announced attendance was 3,520. That’s horrible and if something doesn’t change soon this event needs to go away. It’s a great idea to outreach to fans here and who live close by, but if the interest isn’t there then why bother?
Whether its on UW’s end or Casper’s end, something needs to be done because this was a joke today.
See Sunday’s paper for more on both of these games, and on a story about the daunting challenged the UW football team has in trying to stop Fresno State’s run game in next week’s New Mexico Bowl.
