More on UW basketball

Went through the notebook and recorder today and here are some quotes  from the Wyoming men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader Saturday from the Wyoming Shootout in Casper.

Quick recap: the UW women beat Dakota State 102-54; the men beat Northern Colorado 76-70.

“It will be nice not to have school and we can just focus on basketball for a bit.” — Cowgirls junior forward and Cheyenne Central graduate Hillary Carlson.

“Wyoming fans know who Hillary, Aubrey and Kristen are. I thought the three in-state kids played extremely well.” — Cowgirls coach Joe Legerski on the play of Carlson, junior guard Aubrey Vandiver of Laramie and sophomore guard Kristen Scheffler of Lovell. The three combined for 60 points, 19 rebounds and eight 3-pointers.

“I’d rather not grade it, I’d just say it’s not back to 100 yet.” — Cowboys sophomore point guard JayDee Luster on the status of his injured right shoulder.

“It was a tough week. Thomas is one of my closest friends, even off the court. — Cowboys sophomore forward Afam Muojeke on his good friend and fellow New York native Thomas Manzano leaving the team last week for personal reasons.

“Toward the end I thought we had a lot of energy, and that’s what we need to make our runs at the end and that’s probably what helped us.” — sophomore center Adam Waddell.

“Kind of.” — added Muojke when asked if he expected Manzano to leave the team.

“This was the second time we played him on the wing a little bit. There’s times I think we can do that because he’s able to go make a play, especially in transition. I really wanted to use some length defensively (in this game) and I thought he was able to do both of those things.” — coach Heath Schroyer on using 6-5 true freshman point guard Desmar Jackson at the wing at times against Northern Colorado. Jackson finished with 11 points and three assists.
