In terms of the men’s game, this couldn’t have been a big surprise.
The Cowboys lost 88-57, were outrebounded 43-28, struggled shooting from the floor (39.2 percent) and the free-throw line (13 of 24) and committed 20 turnovers.
You knew of those things happened the result would be like this. It could have been 40 if SDSU would have kept its foot on the gas pedal late in the contest.
UW trailed by as many as 37, and its two best guards — freshman Desmar Jackson and sophomore JayDee Luster — fouled out about midway through the second half.
Jackson got off to a great start with nine points in the first six to seven minutes of the game. But he also had six turnovers, along with Luster.
Sophomore center Adam Waddell wasn’t much of a factor with four points and six rebounds. His knee and ankle were pretty sore so UW sat him much of the second half with the game out of hand.
Good idea.
Even with at full strength UW likely isn’t going to win at San Diego State, but this was yet another rough loss despite the Cowboys playing well for about the first 15 minutes.
At 9-15 overall, 2-8 in the league an on a four-game losing streak, UW will try to snap it Saturday at home against TCU in a game where the loser is almost assured (especially if it’s the Cowboys) to be in the play-in game at the MWC Tournament next month.

Kudos to the Cowgirls Wednesday night, 63-51 winners at home against SDSU. Hillary Carlson and Aubrey Vandiver both with double-doubles. Tough to find a more productive duo than those in-state products in the MWC.
A big road game at TCU Saturday is next for UW. A win there could set it up for a run at the league title.
See Thursday’s paper for more on this game from Laramie.
