UW football schedule released

Wyoming and the other eight Mountain West Conference teams released their football schedules Monday.

Here is UW’s schedule. All times MST:

Sept. 4, Southern Utah, 7 p.m. (no TV)

Sept. 11, at Texas, TBA (TV TBA)

Sept. 18, Boise State, 6 p.m. (CBSC)

Sept. 25, Air Force, Noon (the mtn.)

Oct. 2, at Toledo, 5 p.m., (TV TBA)

Oct. 9, at TCU, 1:30 p.m. (CBSC)

Oct. 16, Utah, 4 p.m. (the mtn.)

Oct. 23, at BYU, noon, (the mtn.)

Oct. 30, San Diego State, noon (the mtn.)

Nov. 6, at New Mexico, 4 p.m. (the mtn.)

Nov. 13, at UNLV, 8 p.m. (the mtn.)

Nov. 20, Colorado State, noon (the mtn.)

Some immediate thoughts:

  • No bye week. Would have been nice to have a bye week heading into that first conference game or into the TCU game.
  • Two nationally televised games, with a good chance for a third with the Texas game. That will be the Longhorns’ home-opener. At very least that gave will be televised.
  • Three true night games, with the Texas game a likely fourth. There were only two last season. And the two true night games with Southern Utah and Boise State I believe are firsts in War Memorial Stadium history. I’m not counting games that started in the late afternoon and ended up under the lights.
  • The Border War with CSU remains the final game, but won’t be the final weekend of the regular-season. BYU plays at Utah on Nov. 27.
  • Three foes played in BCS bowls last season (Texas, TCU and Boise State), and three others played in bowl games (Air Force, BYU and Utah).

Some thoughts about other MWC teams’ schedules:

  • Air Force and CSU don’t have bye weeks, and Air Force must end the season on a short week with a Thursday night game at UNLV.
  • After an opening game with FCS member Northwestern State, Air Force has consecutive games with BYU at home, at Oklahoma, at Wyoming and home to Navy. Yikes!!
  • CSU and San Diego State play all four of their non-conference games before getting into league play.
  • Eleven of TCU’s 12 games will be nationally televised, including two on ESPN’s family of networks.
  • Three of Utah’s four non-conference games are against BCS schools. They host Pittsburgh and play at Iowa State and Notre Dame on Nov. 13.
  • UNLV will have two of the longest road trips of any team in the nation with an Oct. 9 game at West Virginia and its regular-season finale at Hawaii Dec. 4.

We can talk about this and more during this week’s live chat at 3 p.m. Friday. Here is the direct link: http://wyomingcowboysblog.com/2010/03/29/live-chat-spring-football/

A true night game we had was in 2004 against Utah and Meyer

I remember that one, too. The blackout game when the power went out. Hope when they have night games this season UW remembers to pay the power bill, or at least have enough power to keep the lights on. LOL.

      Thanks for the comment.
