Before reporters could ask, Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen had the answers.
He knew the first question after Tuesday’s spring practice would be about his one-year contract extension. So Christensen belted out the typical things you hear from something like this:
“I appreciate the support.”
“I’m excited to be here.”
“I’m looking forward to the next five years.”
“I think it shows their commitment to me and my commitment to them.”
When Christensen was hired in 2008 he signed a five-year contract, as as he enters his second season he again will be working off a five-year deal.
No pay raise, but a nice bonus if he remains the coach after a certain period of time — far shorter than the life of the contract, which runs through Dec. 31, 2014. See Wednesday’s Wyoming Tribune Eagle and Laramie Boomerang for more on that.
I’m also hearing some other contract extensions for other UW head coaches could be coming soon. My guess is it will be with wrestling and women’s basketball. What do you think?
A light practice slated for Thursday before Saturday’s spring game at 2 p.m. See both papers Wednesday for more details. Weather permitting, and it’s not looking too bad right now, I hope you will join me for a live blog and chat during the spring game. The one last Saturday was a blast. Let’s do it again this Saturday.
