Would be curious to get your feedback on my column in Sunday’s paper.

It would be my hope that we can maintain our current course as conference and get an automatic birth into the BCS. If we could reach that goal I think that it would make it much easier for Wyoming and every other MWC school to justify spending the money needed to make it more attractive for higher caliber coaches to stay with Wyoming and other MWC teams. It is my belief that that Christensen saw this coming and that is why he came to Wyoming. Funding from football will pave the way for success in all other MWC colligate sports. The stepping stone process may continue but it would become more of a lateral move, allowing for longer periods of success before the coaches are lured away.

      Great points Jon,

Would like to see a time when UW isn’t a stepping stone, but that may never be the case. Still, it would be nice if it got back to being that in the sense that it would mean things are going well on the field our court, and hopefully off it as well.

As always, I appreciate your comments. Have a good one!

Nice article. If Wyoming wants to compete with the “Big Boys” it must then spend the money for both Coaches and Facilities to attract and retain not only successful coaches but also the players to perform at a high level. The fans also have to do their part and support the school by attending games in both football and basketball.

Having lived in Boise for the last 10 years it’s hard not to follow BSU and they’ve gone through quite a few coaches who left for better jobs. Koetter for ASU, Hawkins for CSU, Houson Nutt for wherever he went….. But none of that has seemed to matter, the town and the university have stayed behind BSU and they’ve been lucky enough to have a few great assistants stay behind (see Chris Peterson). Having watched this over the years it wouldn’t seem bad to me at all if Christensen built UW up, left for another job, and Arroyo or English stayed around and kept things going. Sometimes you even end up with a better guy than the one you started with.

      Good point K.C.

I think UW athletics director Tom Burman would like to do that if, say, Christensen left and replace him with one of his up and coming assistants. Granted, the last time UW did that it didn’t work out when Vic Koenning replaced Dana Dimel in 2000, but just because it didn’t work out once doesn’t mean it can’t again.

Thanks for the comment and checking out the blog.

      Take care!
