Golfing with Schroyer

I was asked to play in Friday’s Cowboy Joe Club Golf  Tournament in Cheyenne, and our four-person team was one short.

As a result we got to play with Wyoming men’s basketball coach Heath Schroyer.

And we had a blast.

It was fun to interact with Schroyer away from basketball, and it think he enjoyed it to. There are not many times during the course of the year to do that.

We talked some basketball, and it’s well known by now that UW didn’t sign anyone in the spring signing period. With one scholarship left, Schroyer may go after a Division I transfer that would sit out the 2010-11 season and be eligible for the 2011-12 season. Schroyer may look the West Coast for that player, likely a wing or forward.

As we get closer to June it’s time for camps at UW to start in numerous sports. Schroyer will host at least three in June and July. He was also heading out to Las Vegas here soon for coaches meetings.

Sorry there hasn’t been a post in a while. Had some family matters to attend to in Montana, but now back at it. Working on some possible football things for the near future to keep your thirst going for that. Just a little more than three months until the start of fall camp.

What is the final preconference hoops schedule for Wyoming ? I read they have the MoValCo matchup with Larry Bird’s school Indiana State on 4 December. Who else is on the slate ?
I know the conference schedule is still about a month away from being released. I assume the Tue/Wed – Sat schedule is still going to be the framework despite how that hurts attendance at UW. Thursday, Friday, and Sunday games are needed for UW in conference in order to draw better attendance with the distances and regular major winter hazards in trying to drive to Laramie from anywhere or from out of that city along with the simple option of watching the game on the MTN.

      Hi Larry,

Nothing has been released yet in terms of UW’s non-conference hoops schedule. You are right about the game with Indiana State at home in the MoValCo Challenge.

The Cowboys will play a Thanksgiving Tournament in Cancun, Mexico, where it will likely play Missouri and Providence. Could also play LaSalle. They will get two games down there, and as part of the deal they also will get two home games against some lower-level Division I teams. North Florida was one team mentioned.

They also get Denver at home and will probably try to buy one other home game.

As far as road games, UW goes to Northern Colorado and to one of the South Dakota Schools (South Dakota or South Dakota State) for a return trip. It will also play a “money” road game and I’ve heard Memphis, California and Ohio State are possible candidates.

I would like to see the MWC go back to a Thursday-Saturday rotation, or something similar. But due to TV it will remain that Tuesday-Wednesday and Saturday rotation. UW isn’t the only one this hurts attendance-wise, but it may hurt it more than others.

Thanks for the post and interest Larry. Have a great day.
