Another Nzeocha coming to UW

Wyoming got a verbal commitment Monday from Eric Nzeocha, a receiver and defensive back from Germany, and the younger brother UW true freshman linebacker Mark Nzeocha.

Eric Nzeocha plays for the Franken Knights youth team in Germany, the same squad his older brother and two other current UW players played for — true freshman linebacker Alex Borgs and senior linebacker Oliver Schober.

Eric Nzeocha is projected as an athlete for UW right now, but along with playing offense and defense he’s also returned kicks.

A third Nzeocha brother, Paul, is a defensive lineman for one of the Knights’ other youth teams.

Evan Williams, a 5-foot-11, 185 pound running back from Minneapolis’ DeLaSalle High, is scheduled to enroll at UW in December.

Williams was part of UW’s 2010 recruiting class, but didn’t make it to fall camp because of academic reasons. As a senior, Williams was ranked as the ninth-best recruit in Minnesota by He played quarterback as a senior, ran for 2,301 yards, threw for 1,266 yards and accounted for 41 touchdowns.

Hope you will keep checking out the blog and Twitter @rpgagliardi a lot Tuesday as the first day of Mountain West Football Media day activities take place. Let me know if you have any specific questions, or comments. Should be a fun couple of days here in Las Vegas.

  1. Kudos to Evan! I’m happy to see a kid get it together and do what needed to be done to enroll. Hopefully he keeps up the same attitude with his coursework.

We are looking pretty deep at RB. That’s what we need so now there is no need to rush Ghaali back when we have Kody Sutton, Evan Williams, AA, Nehemie, Brandon Miller. Heck, he could even move back to LB.

  2. Sean, the article say’s he won’t enroll here till Dec., so he won’t be playing this fall. Glad the young man decided to stick with us.
Hey Gags, real tough gig ya got there. Enjoy Vegas. Hey, put $2 down on black 2 for me, will split the winnings. My check’s in the mail. 😉

      • How many years eligibility will Evan Williams have when he gets here?
If he went to a CC he lost one year there, right?

        • I will try and check on that, but I don’t know if he went to a JC. He didn’t play for one last year so he might be able to come in as a true freshman. Worst-case scenario as a sophomore but he has a redshirt year.

          • Over on the Altitude it says “Williams didn’t qualify academically and ended up at Western Iowa CC.”

I don’t know if that would burn a year or not but would be interesting to find out.

          • Worst-case scenario he comes in as a sophomre and has four years to play three. Not bad.

  3. Alex Borgs played for the Duesseldorf Panther not for Franken and Schobert played for the Munich Cowboys.
Duesseldorf was also the home of OT Sebastian Volmer – now with the Patriots and LB Matt Berning who will play for the Jets this year. The oldest Nzeocha brothers is still with Panthers as a DE.
