Some thoughts:
–Interesting to see junior walk-on Andrew Meredith ahead of senior Luke Anderson at nickel back. Anderson missed some time this spring due to injury, but Meredith played well in his absence. Meredith, who is from Green River, plays hard and also plays a lot on special teams. If Anderson is healthy for fall camp that battle will be one to watch.
–Coach Dave Christensen liked what he saw from sophomore Mark Nzeocha at strong safety, and it showed as he is listed as the starter. At 6-3 and 220 pounds, he could be a force. I like the depth at all the defensive back positions. Expect all those guys listed to play.
–Redshirt freshman Zack Berg had one of the best springs of any player at the SAM linebacker spot. He’s listed ahead of senior Ghaali Muhammad right now, who didn’t participate in contact drills in the spring with an injury. That’s another spot to watch in fall camp with Muhammad is healthy.
–The Cowboys have three good guys at middle (MIKE) linebacker in senior Oliver Schober and juniors Devyn Harris and J.J. Quinlan. Wouldn’t be surprised if all three of them play. Harris has and can play outside as well.
–The right side of the offensive line still may be a work in progress, but coming out of spring the starters are senior Zach Rushing at guard and sophomore Daniel Fleischman at tackle. Will they keep their jobs in fall camp, and throughout the season. We’ve seen UW switch thnigs up along the line a lot the last three years (seven different starting lineups last season). Senior Kyle Magnuson returns from injury in fall camp at right tackle.
