No UW football games on national TV – yet

As of today, none of Wyoming’s football games this season will be televised nationally.

CBS Sports Network came out with its schedule today, and ESPN released its initial list of games a couple of weeks ago. There should be more games on ESPN’s family of networks announced at a later time. CBS Sports Network is the primary television rights holder for the Mountain West.

No surprise UW isn’t on any of those two national platforms. There isn’t a lot of demand for games for a team coming off a 4-8 record in 2012. New Mexico was the only other team not to get a game on CBSSN. UW, Colorado State and Hawaii didn’t make ESPN’s initial list of games.

I would expect the Cowboys’ season-opener at Nebraska on Aug. 31 to be picked up by the Big Ten Network, or possibly another national network. The Sept. 28 game at Texas State, which will be at 5 p.m. MST, could be picked up by the Longhorn Network.

As for other UW conference games, ROOT Sports could pick up a few. Its TV schedule has yet to be released.

Here is a breakdown of nationally televised games for MW teams on CBS Sports Network and ESPN’s family of networks.

Air Force        6 (Two on ESPN, four on CBSSN)

In Saturday’s Wyoming Tribune Eagle, Laramie Boomerang and on I list five things to watch for in the Cowboys’ spring game today, which is at 2 p.m. in Laramie.

Don’t want to give away what I wrote, but I would like to know what you will be watching for.

Also, there will be a story on some former UW players who hope to get taken in today’s final day of the NFL Draft, or given a shot as a free agent.

And, join me for a live chat during UW’s spring game. A link will be here on the blog and at Hope to chat with a lot of you then.
