Players weigh in on toughest places to play in MW men’s basketball

I caught up with players from all 11 Mountain West teams and asked them the toughest places to play in the league during MW Men’s Basketball Media Day in Las Vegas.

As you will see, no big surprises where some of the toughest places are, but it’s still fun to see some of the players’ reactions.

G Josh Adams, Sr., Wyoming: New Mexico. Packed house. Very loud. Their fans know everything about you, and they know basketball.”

G Marqueze Coleman, Sr., Nevada: San Diego State and New Mexico. The crowds there are incredible.

G/F Tyron Criswell, Sr., Nevada: San Diego State. Their student section was wild. You couldn’t hear anything. We had to coach ourselves.

G Joe De Ciman, Sr., Colorado State: The Pit at New Mexico. You walk down that ramp and that’s what college basketball is all about.

F Tiel Daniels, Sr. Colorado State: The Pit.

G/F Anthony Drmic, Sr., Boise State: Colorado State, Wyoming, Utah State. Especially Wyoming with the altitude.

F Hayden Graham, Jr., Air Force: New Mexico, and followed quick by San Diego State.

G Marvelle Harris, Sr., Fresno State: San Diego State or Wyoming. Wyoming has the altitude thing and great fans. San Diego State fans are crazy.

F Alan Herndon, So. Wyoming: Utah State. Their fans are some of the craziest I’ve ever seen. When you lose to them at home, they’ll let you know about it.

G Zach Kocur, Jr., Air Force: San Diego State and New Mexico are similar as the fans and student sections are close to the bench.

G/F Sam Logwood, So., New Mexico: Utah State. Their student section is ridiculous.

G Patrick McCaw, So., UNLV: San Diego State. The fans are on you from the start.

G Cullen Neal, So., New Mexico: Utah State is the sleeper in the conference, but I would go with San Diego State because of everything — the students, The Show, the arena.

G Darius Perkins, Sr., Utah State: The Pit (at New Mexico), Boise State, San Diego State and Wyoming. The Pit has a gladiator atmosphere. San Diego State had a lot of fans. Boise fans came out. With Wyoming, sometimes they say altitude don’t get to you, but it does. They had good fans as well ,and those guys play hard.”

G/F Winston Shepard, Sr., San Diego State: San Diego State, but other than that they’re all the same to me.

F Skylar Spencer, Sr., San Diego State: The Pit at New Mexico. High altitude, crazy environment and fans that are into it.

G/F Paul Watson, Jr., Fresno State: San Diego State. The heckling starts from the start.

F James Webb III, Jr., Boise State: New Mexico, Utah State and San Diego State. The fans at all three places are crazy, and Utah State does so much research. They don’t hold back.

Note: San Jose wasn’t represented in this poll because the two players at MW Media Day — senior guard Princeton Onwas and junior guard Gary Williams are first-year players and have not played in any of the MW arenas.

  1. RG, Does it look to you like Herndon added any weight? Would really help him IMO to get bigger. Has height and length, but seemed to get pushed around last season.

    • Kyle,
Herndon has put on some weight. Is about 210 now and he told me he would like to be around 215 when the season starts. He’s still skinny, but you can tell he looks a little thicker than last year.
