Players come and players go for UW

Monday was the first day of classes for the spring semester at Wyoming, and a busy day in the form of announcements as UW announced three mid-year signees and four scholarship players that won’t be back.

The biggest news among the player depatures was receiver Josh Doctson. As a true freshman Doctson caught 35 passes for 393 yards and five touchdowns. Three of those scores came in UW’s final two games — two against Colorado State and one against Temple on the New Mexico Bowl. He became UW’s big-play threat late in the season.

UW depth chart prediction

Monday afternoon Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen will speak to the media leading into Saturday’s season-opener against Weber State.

Christensen will release the depth chart for the first game. Some positions (quarterback) we know who will start. In fact, I don’t think there should be many surprises. But why wait until Monday afternoon? Here is how I think the depth chart will look. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Texas receiver commits to UW

Kevin Robertson, a 6-foot-4, 208 pound receiver from Northland Christian High in Houston verbally committed to Wyoming Sunday. Robertson visited Laramie this weekend.

Here is a YouTube highlight video of Robertson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWGMWkyT1XY

Robertson was given a three-star rating out of five by Rivals.com. He played receiver and safety in high school and scored 20 touchdowns as a senior. He has 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash and a 34-inch vertical leap.

Robertson also received a scholarship offer from North Texas. Houston, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Rice and TCU also recruited him.

Robertson is the second big receiver from Texas UW has a verbal commitment from. The other, Josh Doctson (6-3, 175) from Mansfield, Texas, is also a three-star recruit by Rivals.com.

UW now has 17 verbal commitments and six others in its 2011 recruiting class signed and enrolled in school. The Cowboys can sign as many as 25 in a recruiting class. Signing day is Feb. 2.

All of the recruits in this class are at least two-star prospects by Rivals.com, and seven are three-star recruits.

The Cowboys likely will go after an offensive or defensive lineman with their final scholarship(s), or a cornerback.
