MW Football Media Day notes and thoughts

The 16th Mountain West Football Media Day concluded Wednesday here at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

Tuesday, Wyoming and the other five teams from the Mountain Division did their interviews. Wednesday were the six teams in the West Division.

First, some more notes on Wyoming after the story I wrote on senior receiver Dominic Rufran and junior defensive end Eddie Yarbrough. Here is the link to that story:

–Senior defensive end Sonny Puletasi was named to the inaugural Polynesian Award watch list by ESPN Big 12. Puletasi had 47 tackles last season, and tied for second on the team in tackles for loss (10) and sacks (4.5).

Duval takes ‘War Daddy’ mentality to UW

I watched the several of the Wyoming football players workout Tuesday morning with new strength coach Zach Duval.

The players worked out for 60 to 80 minutes, and that was about the number of times I heard Duval say “War Daddy” to the guys as he encouraged and coached them through a myriad of different circuits of lifts and drills.

“A War Daddy is someone that gets it done in every facet of his life,” Duval said. “It’s a championship culture and a championship mentality. It’s also a tough guy mentality.

“We are living out here in the wild West, and the kids fit profile of the down and dirty kids. You out work people and tough it out. We are instilling that attitude and belief in that attitude.”
