Thanksgiving meal favorites from Wyoming football

Happy Thanksgiving to you all, although we are not quite to Thursday just yet.

Wanted to have a little fun with this post, so I asked players and coaches from the Wyoming football team what their favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal is. There’s so much to choose from!

Junior tight end Austin Fort: “Green beans with bacon my mom makes.”

Junior safety Andrew Wingard: “Stuffing, but also mixing the stuffing with the turkey and gravy.”

Senior cornerback Robert Priester: “Stuffing and the bread rolls.”

Junior quarterback Nick Smith: “My mom’s sweet potato casserole with marshmallows   on top.”

Tight end coach Jacob Claborn: “The drumstick”

Senior fullback Drew Van Maanen: “Stuffing”

Junior defensive end Carl Granderson: “My granny’s Kook-Aid pie. She is going to bring me some this week.” Granderson is from Sacramento, California, and said several family members will travel to San Jose to watch him and the Cowboys play at San Jose State Saturday.

Junior fullback Matt List: “My mom’s turkey.”

Coach Craig Bohl: “Stuffing.”

Myself: All of it is good, but my favorite is the turkey sandwiches afterwards. Take some turkey and pile it high on some homemade rolls/bread, slather it with mayonnaise, add salt and pepper and maybe some cheese.

What about you, would love to hear your favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal.

Bohl said there will be a Thanksgiving dinner for the team, coaches and their families Thursday in Laramie. He said Altitude Chophouse & Brewery will host the buffet-style meal for the team.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your interest in the stuff I post on this blog, and also our UW sports coverage in the Wyoming Tribune Eagle and Laramie Boomerang, and online at

And, my normal UW sports live chat at 3 p.m. Thursdays will not be held this week since it is Thanksgiving. It will return next week. However, I still plan to have a live chat during the San Jose State game Saturday starting at 3 p.m. Go to or this blog for links.

Happy Thanksgiving, and happy eating as well!

  1. Gags,

I’m going to have to agree with you about the leftover turkey sandwiches! We always drove to Rapid City, SD to partake in Thanksgiving with my grandparents and my grandma would always make me turkey sands complete with Miracle Whip (no mayo for this guy!) and cheese for the drive back to Laramie during my college years. Mmmm mmmm good!

Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for your time on this blog as well as your other platforms! Your specific insights into the team(s) throughout the year is a real treat for the fans.

    • Thank you, Ryan. Really appreciate the kind words! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
